The audience was convinced that Mathias de Ruijter's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Boris Behn was relentless in the 12th minute of the game. Caetano Sarmento did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Mike Zoetmulder 14 minutes into the match. In the 23rd minute Montrel Perpiñán shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Boris Behn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 27 minutes into the match, De Pelgrims's goalkeeper Mike Zoetmulder had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Carlos Fernando de Sena. The Sc Ajax Hirtenberg supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching De Pelgrims's performance. The match ended with a win for De Pelgrims.
