The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 4th minute of the match, Matthew Brookman tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Thiago Paraibano saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. With an all-out effort, Egg Chasers FC's Thiago Paraibano threw himself towards the right post 7 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Rex Attenborough, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Matthew Brookman took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 9th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Thiago Paraibano. Jenipapo SC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Thiago Paraibano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Matthew Brookman, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. In the 11th minute of the match Egg Chasers FC got a corner. Jenipapo SC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Matthew Brookman ran over to the corner to take the kick. Des Wicks's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 20thth minute, Thiago Paraibano skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. When Wellington Rodrigues fell near the penalty area in the 22nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jenipapo SC's protests and gave Wellington Rodrigues a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pete Partridge in the 23rd minute of play forced Jenipapo SC's goalkeeper Thiago Paraibano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Laércio Ramalho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabien Barthez having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Des Wicks got free with Thiago Paraibano in the 33rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 35 played minutes Egg Chasers FC got a freekick which was hit by Jonny Wilkinson. Fabien Barthez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laércio Ramalho in the 36th minute of play. Franz Hardcastle hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Jonny Wilkinson was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 46 minutes into the match. In the 47th match minute, Egg Chasers FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jonny Wilkinson to maneuver through the defense. 48 minutes into the match, Egg Chasers FC's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zonta came free, but Fabien Barthez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After the first half Jenipapo SC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Kenny Duckworth during the 63rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After having played for 76 minutes, Des Wicks managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Egg Chasers FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Des Wicks was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 77 played minutes Egg Chasers FC got a freekick which was hit by Pete Partridge. Pete Partridge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Egg Chasers FC's Des Wicks in the 90th minute got a chance for a shot 90th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Jenipapo SC's goalie prevented a goal. After some careless play in the Jenipapo SC defense, Des Wicks kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Thiago Paraibano. The Jenipapo SC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Thiago Paraibano should have stopped the shot.
