After 6 played minutes Club Atlético de Newell got a freekick which was hit by Mike Little. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marcial Mannie during the 8th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 9th minute, Marcial Mannie hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mike Little kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. Club Atlético de Newell's Spike Lambley proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save Club Atlético de Newell from getting a goal against them. In the 24th minute, Tommy Knight hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Spike Lambley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Virgilio Monico, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. In the 25th minute, one of Club Atlético de Newell:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Club Atlético de Newell. Cayetano Remir struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Spike Lambley didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Águilas Poblanas. Zeledon Matthew sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Saverio Chuse showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Edward Rushmere in the 46th minute of the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Virgilio Monico stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 60thth minute of the game Virgilio Monico who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Club Atlético de Newell's Spike Lambley was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Virgilio Monico had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Club Atlético de Newell's Spike Lambley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Virgilio Monico in the 68th minute of play. Club Atlético de Newell's Edward Rushmere got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. A collision led to Club Atlético de Newell getting a freekick after 71 minutes play. Greg Bastow hit a great ball. Spike Lambley came out of the goal in the 73rd minute to try and stop a shot by Águilas Poblanas's Virgilio Monico. But to his dismay, Virgilio Monico quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Virgilio Monico might have been able to make a better finish in the 77th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Spike Lambley. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Virgilio Monico ran back to his position shaking his head. Zeledon Matthew fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Spike Lambley having to interfere. Spike Lambley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zeledon Matthew, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Club Atlético de Newell booed when Águilas Poblanas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christian Osoro didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a little luck, Águilas Poblanas's Saverio Chuse got control of the ball when Edward Rushmere tried to sneak it across the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 91st minute, Benicio Palben managed to get in a good position for a shot. Águilas Poblanas's supporters rose to their feet, but Benicio Palben was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Spike Lambley breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 94th minute Cayetano Remir shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Spike Lambley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Águilas Poblanas had won after a very even match.
