With a little luck, Alzaga FC's Arcadio Buendia got control of the ball when Ademar Rocha tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Robert Rutkowski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Dante Fernendo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robert Rutkowski, who was totally free with the ball in the 29th minute. With his leg Arcadio Buendia managed to avoid a goal in the 36thth minute, when Sporting de Gijón's Ademar Rocha fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Arcadio Buendia was out of position in the 40 minute of play, and Matias Bilintx capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Matias Bilintx really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. After some careless play in the Alzaga FC defense, Denis Bonadona kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Arcadio Buendia. The Alzaga FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Arcadio Buendia should have stopped the shot. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Matias Bilintx was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rdth minute of the game Robert Rutkowski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Sporting de Gijón's Dante Fernendo was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robert Rutkowski in the 57th minute of play forced Sporting de Gijón's goalkeeper Dante Fernendo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Robert Rutkowski might have been able to make a better finish in the 63rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dante Fernendo. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Robert Rutkowski ran back to his position shaking his head. Dante Fernendo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Alzaga FC. Leon Goretzka replaced Robert Rutkowski. Alzaga FC's Pablo Ur was substituted for Ovidio Bautista. Arcadio Buendia stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ademar Rocha's shot from short distance in the 86th minute. 88 minutes into the match, Alzaga FC's goal looked a bit too open when Matias Bilintx came free, but Arcadio Buendia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Leon Goretzka came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Alzaga FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Leon Goretzka couldn't finish the play. Alzaga FC's Arcadio Buendia played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Venancio Emesto in the 91st minute of play. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Sporting de Gijón fans cheered their team off the field, for while Alzaga FC had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
