Lukas Podolski could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 34th minute of the match, but Dorio Laje made a huge save. 36 minutes into the match, U21 Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Lukas Podolski came free, but Dorio Laje reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Dorio Laje showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lukas Podolski, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. When Lukas Podolski came up free with the goalie in the 46th minute, the U21 Austria fans jumped to their feet. In the 61st minute Lukas Podolski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dorio Laje saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Xandro Zubillaga got free with Frederic Gschwendtner in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. U21 Austria's Lukas Podolski got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. U21 Austria made a substitution.
