Saúl Gentiletti struck a weak shot in the 23rd minute. Gary Kelly didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC Žalia Giria. FC Žalia Giria's Adolfo Carrizo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Hugo Alexandersen in the 25th minute of play. Gary Kelly made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Saúl Gentiletti in the 27th minute of play. Astijus Orbakas's late challenge caught a Club Atlético de Newell's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Astijus Orbakas helped the player get up and apologised. In the 28th minute, Astijus Orbakas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Sebastian Percival was the one to do the kick off. After 53 minutes, Rokas Kavaliauskas mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the FC Žalia Giria and the Club Atlético de Newell players grew even worse after the yellow card. Club Atlético de Newell played a much better game than FC Žalia Giria and deserved their victory. The FC Žalia Giria players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
