Frederic Gschwendtner showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sam Bates, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. In the 10th minute Salih Özkan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pat Zamora saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 0-1 became the score in the 12th minute when Lukas Podolski elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Pat Zamora showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lukas Podolski, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dominic Haug in the 19th minute of play forced U21 Northern Ireland's goalkeeper Pat Zamora to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Salih Özkan in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pat Zamora saved U21 Northern Ireland from getting behind. Pat Zamora showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Lukas Podolski in the 22nd minute of the match. 25 minutes into the match, U21 Northern Ireland's Sam Bates sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Frederic Gschwendtner narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 27th minute U21 Northern Ireland were awarded a corner. Julian Deaconsfield went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Julian Deaconsfield almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but U21 Austria's Frederic Gschwendtner did a great save. In the 43rd match minute, U21 Northern Ireland was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Achraf Hakimi to maneuver through the defense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ciarán Symons during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, U21 Northern Ireland's Ciarán Symons got a free kick in the 47th minute. In the 48th minute of the match Krzysztof Marek sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Pat Zamora skillfully saved the ball. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Lukas Podolski to strike the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, U21 Austria's goal looked a bit too open when Erling Haaland came free, but Frederic Gschwendtner reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 69 minutes, Dominic Haug made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. U21 Northern Ireland's Pat Zamora tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Frederic Gschwendtner made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eric Choupo-Moting in the 73rd minute of play. 79 minutes into the match, Eric Choupo-Moting had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Frederic Gschwendtner. U21 Austria's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Eric Choupo-Moting was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. U21 Austria made a substitution. Jörg Moratschke replaced Salih Özkan. Roy Hayes, 83 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Kim Louven fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pat Zamora having to interfere. After recieving a nice pass, U21 Austria's Krzysztof Marek tried to score from far away in the 95th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. When the final whistle sounded U21 Austria left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than U21 Northern Ireland.
