Alf Tempel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Robin Steckamp in the 11th minute. In the 12th minute Austria were awarded a corner. Robin Steckamp went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Michael-Jan Schönberg almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Rapid Wien's Alf Tempel did a great save. If Robin Steckamp had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alf Tempel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Robin Steckamp in the 20th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Michael-Jan Schönberg in the 21st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Alf Tempel saved Rapid Wien from getting behind. Hans-Jürgen Pötscher showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Albert Kraft, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Hans-Jürgen Pötscher made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Hagedorn in the 28th minute of play. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Austria's goalkeeper Hans-Jürgen Pötscher, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After having played for 37 minutes, Albert Kraft managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rapid Wien's supporters crossed their fingers, but Albert Kraft was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Austria's Robin Steckamp in the 39th minute got a chance for a shot 39th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Rapid Wien's goalie prevented a goal. In the 40th minute, Hubert Finken fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Alf Tempel, passed just outside the right post. A collision led to Austria getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Matt Wegener hit a great ball. In the 46th minute Tommy Bongartz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hans-Jürgen Pötscher saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Austria's Jonas Hautot was substituted for Hubert Finken. The wind increased when Robin Steckamp made the kick off in the second half. In the 54thth minute of the game Robin Steckamp who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Rapid Wien's Alf Tempel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. When Robin Steckamp came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Austria fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Robin Steckamp couldn't finish the play. Alf Tempel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Justus Lintorf, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Alf Tempel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Robin Steckamp in the 58th minute of the match. With a little luck, Austria's Hans-Jürgen Pötscher got control of the ball when Daniel Hagedorn tried to sneak it across the goal line. Lars Reicher replaced Andreas Olejarz. After 68 minutes Austria's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Mirco Kähler who took care of the corner kick. The corner ended in Mirco Kähler almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Austria's Hans-Jürgen Pötscher did a great save. In the 72nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Rapid Wien's goalkeeper Alf Tempel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. At last the ball reached Jonas Hautot at the corner, ending with a kick to difficult to stop for the goalkeeper of Rapid Wien. 1-1. After some careless play in the Rapid Wien defense, Jonas Hautot kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alf Tempel. The Rapid Wien fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alf Tempel should have stopped the shot.
