In the 11th minute Elpidio Francis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Barra Gol saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 12 minutes into the game, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Elpidio Francis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Barra Gol made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. In the 17th minute, Leonel Pinheiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Elpidio Francis had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Branislav Velchevski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emanuel Vigil in the 65th minute of play. Elpidio Francis blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Barra Gol having to make a save. The supporters of PEÇONHENTO FC MG booed when ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Inocencio Cristos didn't get a good kick on the ball. PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Peter Paul Crouch was substituted for Emanuel Vigil. The throw-in from Leonel Pinheiro in the 82nd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Koulis Lalas. In the 89th minute, Peter Paul Crouch made a precise shot to the right of Branislav Velchevski. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Peter Paul Crouch in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Branislav Velchevski saved ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA from getting behind. PEÇONHENTO FC MG's Peter Paul Crouch managed to work through ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's defense and was going for an easy goal, but he hit the shot with his toe and the ball flew outside the goal. Peter Paul Crouch dejectedly held out his arms as if to ask why the ball hadn't gone in. An unexpectedly hard shot by Elpidio Francis in the 97th minute of play forced PEÇONHENTO FC MG's goalkeeper Barra Gol to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though PEÇONHENTO FC MG had controlled the match.
