After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Stanoy Chepishev managed to get in a good position for a shot. FC Kyustendil's supporters rose to their feet, but Stanoy Chepishev was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marin Denkov breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Phil Foden charged in rather forcefully in the 18th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Phil Foden the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Phil Foden kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. Albert Kolimechkov fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marin Denkov having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as Viden Borimechkov kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Spiro Buchinski. That made the score 1-1 in the 26 minute of play. After having played for 31 minutes, Grigor Kúndev managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FC Kyustendil's supporters crossed their fingers, but Grigor Kúndev was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. FC Kyustendil's Spiro Buchinski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Phil Foden in the 33rd minute of play. Marin Denkov came out of the goal in the 41st minute to try and stop a shot by FC Kyustendil's Grigor Kúndev. But to his dismay, Grigor Kúndev quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. After the first half FC Kyustendil were leading 1-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
