Spectators: 193 (Terracing: 146, Seating: 44, VIP seats: 3) Brugge United's Raoul Lambert started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Brugge United's Casper Jannes got a good chance for a goal in the 2nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 17 minutes, Pacho Carabajal put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Wilfried Boumans. Dolf Rouckeloos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Boudewijn Horemans in the 20th minute of play. Brugge United's Dolf Rouckeloos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gregorie Allaert in the 21st minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Didier Van Gorp in the 24th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dolf Rouckeloos saved Brugge United from getting behind. After 24 played minutes Brugge United got a freekick which was hit by Timmy Simons. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pacho Carabajal in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Wilfried Boumans saved Genk from getting behind. In the 27thth minute of the game Pacho Carabajal who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Genk's Wilfried Boumans was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After taking down the ball on Brugge United's corner Jean-Louis Rijniers fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Wilfried Boumans quite easily take care of the ball. Genk's Wilfried Boumans played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pacho Carabajal in the 31st minute of play. The audience was convinced that Pacho Carabajal's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Wilfried Boumans was relentless in the 34th minute of the game. Wilfried Boumans made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Raoul Lambert sent off a good shot on target. When Sylven Wynaerts fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Brugge United's protests and gave Sylven Wynaerts a yellow card for diving instead. Wilfried Boumans took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benny De Potter, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 43 minutes into the game, Matt Camps was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Genk's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Brugge United the free kick. A collision led to Genk getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Matt Camps hit a great ball. Pacho Carabajal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wilfried Boumans having to interfere.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Didier Van Gorp made a kick off. After 56 minutes, Raoul Lambert mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Brugge United and the Genk players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 57th minute, Raoul Lambert hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Brugge United booed when Genk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matthias Bernaerts didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 64th minute, Jean-Louis Rijniers sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Genk's Wilfried Boumans didn't even have to move. After 66 minutes of play, Brugge United's Pacho Carabajal made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wilfried Boumans was left in no man's land by his defense there! Pacho Carabajal scored 4-0 in the 69th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Wilfried Boumans, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pacho Carabajal in the 72nd minute of play forced Genk's goalkeeper Wilfried Boumans to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dolf Rouckeloos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Didier Van Gorp, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 76 played minutes Brugge United got a freekick which was hit by Sylven Wynaerts. After 81 played minutes Brugge United got a freekick which was hit by Sean Abrams. 82 minutes into the match, Brugge United's goalkeeper Dolf Rouckeloos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Matthias Bernaerts. Raoul Lambert took the ball and in the 88 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Wilfried Boumans. Wilfried Boumans dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-1. If Sylven Wynaerts had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Raoul Lambert managed to get in a good position for a shot. Brugge United's supporters rose to their feet, but Raoul Lambert was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wilfried Boumans breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
