In the 19th minute Jerardo Cazares shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cisco Rubial saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Real Medellín's Balázs Megyeri played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Egun Galan in the 29th minute of play. After a rather tough play, AFC United's Aristides Belandia got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Mero Menchaca charged in rather forcefully in the 33rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mero Menchaca the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Mero Menchaca hit a great freekick 34 minutes into the match. After having played for 38 minutes, Jerardo Cazares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Real Medellín's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jerardo Cazares was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Real Medellín booed when AFC United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 39 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nicky Butt didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as AFC United's Matthew Vall slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Balázs Megyeri. That made the score 1-0 after 46 minutes of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The wind increased when Egun Galan made the kick off in the second half. In the 55th match minute, AFC United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Egun Galan to maneuver through the defense. Balázs Megyeri showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gilen Martioda in the 59th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Egun Galan in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Balázs Megyeri saved Real Medellín from getting behind. AFC United's Cisco Rubial proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save AFC United from getting a goal against them. In the 97th minute of the match Gilen Martioda shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Balázs Megyeri showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When the referee ended the match the AFC United players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
