In the 20thth minute of the game Chiquinho Faria who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Portuguesa's Ruy Goiano was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Romeu Souto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joélson Rossi in the 22nd minute of the match. In the 27th minute the ball was on its way in behind Portuguesa's goalkeeper Ruy Goiano, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Sidnei Faria kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. If Chiquinho Faria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 35 minutes into the match, Rogério Andrade had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ruy Goiano. Portuguesa's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rogério Andrade was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. Ruy Goiano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Chiquinho Faria in the 38th minute of play. Ruy Goiano stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chiquinho Faria's shot from short distance in the 45th minute.

Romeu Souto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sidnei Faria in the 52nd minute of the match. A collision led to Corinthians getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Chiquinho Faria hit a great ball. Corinthians's Fernandinho Urbano was substituted for Zé Valle. Ruy Goiano stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chiquinho Faria's shot from short distance in the 60th minute. When Fernandinho Urbano fell near the penalty area in the 64th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Corinthians's protests and gave Fernandinho Urbano a yellow card for diving instead. After 64 played minutes Corinthians got a freekick which was hit by Fernandinho Urbano. Sidnei Faria recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 70th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 73rd minute, Vitório Donato left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Portuguesa fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. If Chiquinho Faria had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ruy Goiano showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Fernandinho Urbano, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Juarês Maranhense hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Portuguesa's zone, Chiquinho Faria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ruy Goiano came out of the goal and Chiquinho Faria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 92nd minute, Faustão Netto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In a very dangerous position, a player in Corinthians fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 93rd minute. Penalty! In the 96th minute Joélson Rossi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Romeu Souto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
