The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Mazinho Fernandez came out of the goal in the 5th minute to try and stop a shot by Irreal Madrid's Alfredo Secco. But to his dismay, Alfredo Secco quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Mazinho Fernandez didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Jânio Mendes went, in the 8th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. If Jânio Mendes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 15 minutes into the game, Jânio Mendes cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Mazinho Fernandez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 19th minute, Jânio Mendes made a precise shot to the right of Mazinho Fernandez. HELVETIA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-4. In the 23rd minute, Maicon Maranhense hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mazinho Fernandez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Secco in the 25th minute of play. In the 26th minute, Jânio Mendes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 30th minute, Fernando Pombal hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Irreal Madrid's Feng Wei Xu got a free kick in the 33rd minute. If Jânio Mendes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 38 minutes into the game, Jânio Mendes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Irreal Madrid's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave HELVETIA the free kick. The supporters of HELVETIA booed when Irreal Madrid was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jânio Mendes didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 42 minutes, Alfredo Secco made it 0-6 with a short kick to the right side. HELVETIA's Mazinho Fernandez tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Jânio Mendes might have been able to make a better finish in the 45th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mazinho Fernandez. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jânio Mendes ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 46th minute, Jânio Mendes made a precise shot to the right of Mazinho Fernandez. HELVETIA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-7. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-7.

The wind increased when Luís Fernando Vergílio made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Jânio Mendes reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mazinho Fernandez. The goal made the score 0-8. Jânio Mendes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Alfredo Secco received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Mazinho Fernandez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alfredo Secco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Osvaldo Pereira kicked well hit freekick during the 64th minute of the match. Alfredo Secco did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-9 to the left of a surprised Mazinho Fernandez 66 minutes into the match. 70 minutes into the match, Irreal Madrid's goal looked a bit too open when Sílvio Luís Melo came free, but Genílson Simões reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Osvaldo Pereira hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. Alfredo Secco took the ball and in the 72 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mazinho Fernandez. Mazinho Fernandez dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-10. If Alfredo Secco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 77th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Alfredo Secco came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Irreal Madrid fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alfredo Secco couldn't finish the play. Genílson Simões took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sílvio Luís Melo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Irreal Madrid's Jânio Mendes slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Mazinho Fernandez. That made the score 0-12 after 88 minutes of play. Irreal Madrid's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
