In the 4th match minute, YR Mechelen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Benoit Clinckspoor to maneuver through the defense. Tommie Vaes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leo Van Mechelen in the 6th minute of play. After a rather tough play, YR Mechelen's Arno Lauwers got a free kick in the 10th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dyllan Switten got free with Roni Van Hoyveldt in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Roni Van Hoyveldt showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Timmy Van Goethem in the 16th minute of the match. 23 minutes into the match, Silver Squad AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Leo Van Mechelen came free, but Tommie Vaes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 23 played minutes Silver Squad AFC got a freekick which was hit by Dyllen Severyns. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lorenzo Rockloos got free with Roni Van Hoyveldt in the 26th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Timmy Van Goethem in the 36th minute of play forced YR Mechelen's goalkeeper Roni Van Hoyveldt to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Leo Van Mechelen to strike the kick off in the second half. Corneel Van Mechelen's late challenge caught a Silver Squad AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Corneel Van Mechelen helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Silver Squad AFC booed when YR Mechelen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 53 match minutes in a wonderful position. Corneel Van Mechelen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Roni Van Hoyveldt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Timmy Van Goethem, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 79th minute, Leo Van Mechelen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Timmy Van Goethem in the 94th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Roni Van Hoyveldt prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 95th minute, Stanny Van Wontergem hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Silver Squad AFC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
