In the 4th match minute, Catarinense F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tadeo Abilio to maneuver through the defense. 8 minutes into the match, Catarinense F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Nicasio Mendebal came free, but Benicio Gaitan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 13 minutes into the match, Nicasio Mendebal notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Catarinense F.C.'s Benicio Gaitan. Benicio Gaitan was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With his leg Benicio Gaitan managed to avoid a goal in the 17thth minute, when RIVER's Hernan Kelemen fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Benicio Gaitan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Uriel Txordon in the 23rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicasio Mendebal in the 24th minute of play forced Catarinense F.C.'s goalkeeper Benicio Gaitan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hernan Kelemen who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 26thth minute tested the skills of Benicio Gaitan when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 32nd minute, Francisco Macerio managed to get in a good position for a shot. RIVER's supporters rose to their feet, but Francisco Macerio was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benicio Gaitan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. RIVER's Nicasio Mendebal shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 37th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Benicio Gaitan but with some difficulty. With a little luck, Catarinense F.C.'s Benicio Gaitan got control of the ball when Francisco Macerio tried to sneak it across the goal line. Benicio Gaitan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Uriel Txordon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 45 minutes into the match, RIVER's goal looked a bit too open when Samuel Tadzio came free, but Mauricio Fernanco reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mauricio Fernanco came out of the goal in the 48th minute to try and stop a shot by Catarinense F.C.'s Anibal Quintan. But to his dismay, Anibal Quintan quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

In the 54th minute Hernan Kelemen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benicio Gaitan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 56th minute, Hernan Kelemen made a precise shot to the right of Benicio Gaitan. Catarinense F.C.'s defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-1. In the 60th match minute, Catarinense F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adolfo Ipar to maneuver through the defense. RIVER's Nicasio Mendebal got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 64th minute Hernan Kelemen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benicio Gaitan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nicasio Mendebal scored 4-1 in the 73rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benicio Gaitan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Mauricio Fernanco made an important save on a dangerous shot by Sixto Quintyn in the 78th minute. In the 83rd minute Sixto Quintyn shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mauricio Fernanco saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 87 minutes into the game, RIVER's Gustavo Theodore nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benicio Gaitan made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-1. Gustavo Theodore blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Benicio Gaitan having to make a save. 95 minutes into the game, Romeo Osorio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Catarinense F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RIVER the free kick. Romeo Osorio hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. After 97 played minutes, RIVER's Higinio Nofre shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Benicio Gaitan came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in RIVER reached it. Catarinense F.C.'s players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
