In the 4th match minute, Vasco FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by César de Godoi to maneuver through the defense. When Cléber da Costa came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the SORRISO E. C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cléber da Costa couldn't finish the play. The SORRISO E. C. fans' excitement grew in the 13th match minute when SORRISO E. C.'s Diguinho Gaúcho looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 19th minute Diguinho Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leopoldo Rezende saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Diguinho Gaúcho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Leopoldo Rezende having to make a save. In the 26th match minute, Vasco FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucas Velloso to maneuver through the defense. 41 minutes into the match, Vasco FC's goal looked a bit too open when Cléber da Costa came free, but Leopoldo Rezende reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Cléber da Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. SORRISO E. C.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Cléber da Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Leopoldo Rezende breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jonas Veloso stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Vasco FC's César de Godoi got a free kick in the 50th minute. Leopoldo Rezende showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Diguinho Gaúcho, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. 54 minutes into the game, SORRISO E. C.'s Diguinho Gaúcho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Leopoldo Rezende made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. In the 61st minute Diguinho Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leopoldo Rezende saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marcelo Moraes kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. David Rossi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gil Motta kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. Leopoldo Rezende took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diguinho Gaúcho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Diguinho Gaúcho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 78th minute of the match, but Leopoldo Rezende made a huge save. Thanks to some nice moves Cléber da Costa could shoot a difficult shot in the 83rd minute, which Leopoldo Rezende however easily saved by the left post. 85 minutes into the game, SORRISO E. C.'s Diguinho Gaúcho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Leopoldo Rezende made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Diguinho Gaúcho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Leopoldo Rezende read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. Diguinho Gaúcho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Leopoldo Rezende tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. SORRISO E. C.'s fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
