An unexpectedly hard shot by Jari Anzengruber in the 18th minute of play forced Grêmio 20 Julho's goalkeeper Rubinho Melo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 20th minute, Michael Paziorek ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rubinho Melo was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After 23 played minutes Grêmio 20 Julho got a freekick which was hit by Dudu Penha. An unexpectedly hard shot by Michael Paziorek in the 24th minute of play forced Grêmio 20 Julho's goalkeeper Rubinho Melo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Grêmio 20 Julho's Emerson de Azevedo got a free kick in the 25th minute. In the 26th minute of the match Hartmut Holtzmann sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rubinho Melo skillfully saved the ball. Conny Stober kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. 33 minutes into the match, Conny Stober had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rubinho Melo. Grêmio 20 Julho's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Conny Stober was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. Academica Pulheim's Dietrich Heppner proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 37th minute of the match, managed to save Academica Pulheim from getting a goal against them. Rubinho Melo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Conny Stober in the 43rd minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Conny Stober stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Grêmio 20 Julho's Rodrigo Borges got a free kick in the 50th minute. Rubinho Melo made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jari Anzengruber in the 56th minute. Rubinho Melo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Conny Stober in the 59th minute of the match.
