In the 36th minute, Julian Kociniewski reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Valentim Palha. The goal made the score 4-1. In the 40th minute Edgar Piwowarski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Valentim Palha saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 42 played minutes Sport Lisboa e Benfica got a freekick which was hit by Leonel Vaz. A hard shot by Damazy Hodas from long distance, 43 minutes into the match, got Valentim Palha's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. After a rather tough play, KS Bozywerek's Tadeusz Serwach got a free kick in the 45th minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
