A beautiful save bye FC Partizan's goalie prevented a goal. Stanoy Komitov made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gabriel Toli in the 5th minute of play. Antonio Mundo took the ball and in the 9 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Stanoy Komitov. Stanoy Komitov dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Antonio Mundo in the 12th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Stanoy Komitov prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Iskren Bozhikov hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. In the 17th minute, Jairo Formerio ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Stanoy Komitov was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-3. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gabriel Toli in the 25th minute of play forced FC Partizan's goalkeeper Stanoy Komitov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stanoy Komitov took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gabriel Toli, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 36 minutes, Baltasar Rios mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS and the FC Partizan players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to NEWELL´S OLD BOYS getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Baltasar Rios hit a great ball. Stanoy Komitov came out of the goal in the 38th minute to try and stop a shot by NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Antonio Mundo. But to his dismay, Antonio Mundo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-4. Ivan Zerkov received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Reynaldo Sabin came out and tried to block the shot, but Ivan Zerkov slotted it home off the left post making it 1-4 in the 42nd minute. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Benito Handi quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Neno Merodiyski, made in the 46th minute of the game.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Gabriel Toli was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Antonio Mundo got free with Stanoy Komitov in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Stanoy Komitov showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gabriel Toli in the 60th minute of the match. The supporters of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS booed when FC Partizan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 64 match minutes in a wonderful position. Iskren Bozhikov didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 68th minute, Iskren Bozhikov hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 77 minutes into the game, Neno Merodiyski threw the ball into play from the sideline. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Benito Handi quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. After a rather tough play, FC Partizan's Antoni Shaphazov got a free kick in the 86th minute. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
