Lauro Varela took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Umberto Dionísio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After taking down the ball on Castanheiro SC's corner Anísio Alagoano fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Lauro Varela quite easily take care of the ball. Célio Vianna kicked well hit freekick during the 6th minute of the match. In the 8th match minute, Castanheiro SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nilson Veloso to maneuver through the defense. Lauro Varela showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Umberto Dionísio in the 11th minute of the match. Pedrinho Guimarães made an important save on a dangerous shot by Agnaldo Vargas in the 14th minute. Nilson Veloso kicked well hit freekick during the 16th minute of the match. The supporters of Nova Iguaçu MZFC booed when Castanheiro SC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Célio Vianna didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 23rd minute Umberto Dionísio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lauro Varela saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. César Alagoano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 47 minutes of play, Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Agnaldo Vargas made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Pedrinho Guimarães was left in no man's land by his defense there! When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Célio Vianna's late challenge caught a Nova Iguaçu MZFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Célio Vianna helped the player get up and apologised. The audience thought a goal was coming when Umberto Dionísio got free with Lauro Varela in the 58th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 63rd minute, Nilson Veloso hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Castanheiro SC made a substitution. Marcelo Eger replaced Magno Pereira. Castanheiro SC's Mauro Sarmento was substituted for Anísio Alagoano. Nilson Veloso hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Lauro Varela made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Umberto Dionísio in the 67th minute of play. In the 68th minute, Castanheiro SC's Benedito Mineiro ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Lauro Varela. Lauro Varela yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edinho Pirani in the 72nd minute of play forced Nova Iguaçu MZFC's goalkeeper Lauro Varela to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 73rd minute of the match Castanheiro SC got a corner. Nova Iguaçu MZFC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Benedito Mineiro ran over to the corner to take the kick. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Marcelinho Valle during the 74th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Lauro Varela had in the 75thth minute some difficulties stopping Benedito Mineiro's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. In the 81st minute Agnaldo Vargas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedrinho Guimarães saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 82 minutes into the game, Luisinho Seco was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Castanheiro SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nova Iguaçu MZFC the free kick. In the 84th match minute, Nova Iguaçu MZFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agnaldo Vargas to maneuver through the defense. After a defensive mix-up in Castanheiro SC's zone, Gilmar Donato stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedrinho Guimarães came out of the goal and Gilmar Donato tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play.
