The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Clayton Gerada was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Stanislas Jolivel showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 3 minute of play. Mathys Courrèges took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Valdomiro Velasco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Versannat's Stanislas Jolivel in the 10th minute got a chance for a shot 10th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Seraċini Għawdxin's goalie prevented a goal. Stanislas Jolivel blasted a shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Clayton Gerada having to make a save. In the 11th minute of the match, Stanislas Jolivel tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Clayton Gerada saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After 13 played minutes Versannat got a freekick which was hit by Karl-Michael Karlberg. 14 minutes into the match, Versannat's goal looked a bit too open when Bjorn Cuschieri came free, but Mathys Courrèges reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 15 minutes into the game, Stanislas Jolivel was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Versannat's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Seraċini Għawdxin the free kick. In the 15th minute, Stanislas Jolivel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Stanislas Jolivel in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Clayton Gerada prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 19th minute Bjorn Cuschieri shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mathys Courrèges saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 20th minute the ball was on its way in behind Seraċini Għawdxin's goalkeeper Clayton Gerada, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mathys Courrèges showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bjorn Cuschieri, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. Versannat's Mathys Courrèges played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dejan Attard in the 24th minute of play. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Shawn Seracino Inglott couldn't finish the play. Clayton Gerada made an important save on a dangerous shot by Gaétan Gueroult in the 31st minute. Stanislas Jolivel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. A collision led to Versannat getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Mamadou Mouraud hit a great ball. Mathys Courrèges made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bjorn Cuschieri in the 37th minute of play. James Buttigieg made in the 39th minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Dejan Attard however managed to control. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Stanislas Jolivel in the 47th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Clayton Gerada saved Seraċini Għawdxin from getting behind. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.
Mathys Courrèges showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shawn Seracino Inglott, who was totally free with the ball in the 50th minute. If Stanislas Jolivel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Stanislas Jolivel in the 53rd minute of play forced Seraċini Għawdxin's goalkeeper Clayton Gerada to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Stanislas Jolivel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 57 minutes had been played when some careless play by Seraċini Għawdxin's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Luis Plasse was slow to take the kick. During this time Versannat's players had a chance to rest. After 66 played minutes, Versannat's Luis Plasse shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Clayton Gerada came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Versannat reached it. Mathys Courrèges made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shawn Seracino Inglott in the 68th minute of play. In the 70th minute Stanislas Jolivel shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Clayton Gerada saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 72 minutes of play, Versannat's Stanislas Jolivel made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Clayton Gerada was left in no man's land by his defense there! Bjorn Cuschieri could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 75th minute of the match, but Mathys Courrèges made a huge save. In the 80th minute, Seraċini Għawdxin's Valdomiro Velasco ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Mathys Courrèges. Mathys Courrèges yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 3-1. Mathys Courrèges showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dejan Attard in the 84th minute of the match. When Karl-Michael Karlberg fell near the penalty area in the 85th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Versannat's protests and gave Karl-Michael Karlberg a yellow card for diving instead. In the 85th minute, Karl-Michael Karlberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mathys Courrèges showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Shawn Seracino Inglott, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Mathys Courrèges took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Shawn Seracino Inglott, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Seraċini Għawdxin's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
