The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 2 minutes into the game, André Luiz Medeiros was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Várzea F.C.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MALAIA FDFDF the free kick. Romeu Batista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Edgar Tasso, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of MALAIA FDFDF booed when Várzea F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adhemar Ribeiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. Hortêncio do Vale took the ball and in the 11 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Romeu Batista. Romeu Batista dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edgar Tasso in the 24th minute of play forced Várzea F.C.'s goalkeeper Romeu Batista to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Romeu Batista showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hortêncio do Vale, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. When Aníbal Paes came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Várzea F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aníbal Paes couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dé Montenegro got free with Celso Barral in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 36 minutes MALAIA FDFDF's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Aníbal Paes who took care of the corner kick. In the 36th minute, Várzea F.C.'s Adhemar Ribeiro ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Celso Barral. Celso Barral yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. Celso Barral showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dé Montenegro, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. After 47 played minutes Várzea F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Rubinho Queirós. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The Várzea F.C. fans' excitement grew in the 79th match minute when Várzea F.C.'s Dé Montenegro looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After having played for 90 minutes, Dé Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Várzea F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Dé Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 92nd minute, MALAIA FDFDF's Edgar Tasso dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-2. After having played for 95 minutes, Valdomiro Duarte managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Várzea F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdomiro Duarte was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Despite being the better team, Várzea F.C. failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
