AVAÍ F.C.'s Marcos Buffon played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gabi Gol in the 4th minute of play. Tostão Mineiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 5th minute of the match, but Marcos Buffon made a huge save. Nestor Quirino showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Walmyr Salles in the 7th minute of the match. 8 minutes into the match, AVAÍ F.C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Elivélton de Castro came free, but Marcos Buffon reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 13th minute, Tostão Mineiro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The América-SC F.C. fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. If Luizão Dantas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tostão Mineiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd rose to their feet as América-SC F.C.'s Jaime Souza slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Marcos Buffon. That made the score 2-0 after 20 minutes of play. After 27 minutes América-SC F.C.'s defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luiz Pombal who took care of the corner kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Teodoro Magalhães heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. The supporters of América-SC F.C. booed when AVAÍ F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rubens Cabral didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 30th minute Gabi Gol shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Buffon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jaime Souza received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Marcos Buffon came out and tried to block the shot, but Jaime Souza slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 33rd minute. The audience was convinced that Gabi Gol's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcos Buffon was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. 40 minutes into the game, América-SC F.C.'s Jaime Souza nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Marcos Buffon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. In the 43rd minute, Jaime Souza hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Teodoro Magalhães to strike the kick off in the second half. Marcos Buffon made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Elivélton de Castro in the 50th minute of play. With his leg Nestor Quirino managed to avoid a goal in the 56thth minute, when AVAÍ F.C.'s Rubens Cabral fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side.
