The audience thought a goal was coming when Oscar Massa got free with José Maria Ramos in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Rubens Viana hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. José Maria Ramos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Régis Coutinho in the 16th minute of play. In the 18th minute FC St. Pauli were awarded a corner. Fred Urbano went to the cornerflag to take it. Rubens Viana took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Vicente Toscano. Vicente Toscano dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. With a little luck, Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s José Maria Ramos got control of the ball when Maurinho Mangueira tried to sneak it across the goal line. When Téo Mangueira fell near the penalty area in the 27th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s protests and gave Téo Mangueira a yellow card for diving instead. In the 28th minute, Téo Mangueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 29th minute, Adriano Berger ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. José Maria Ramos was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Régis Coutinho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but José Maria Ramos made a huge save. José Maria Ramos made a fantastic save in the 35th minute, when Oscar Massa sent off a good shot on target. José Maria Ramos made an important save on a dangerous shot by Oscar Massa in the 37th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s zone, Mathias das Neves stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Régis Coutinho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd match minute, Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ® was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Róbson Sergipano to maneuver through the defense. In the 64th minute, Mathias das Neves ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. José Maria Ramos was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. Mathias das Neves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. José Maria Ramos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Oscar Massa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ®'s José Maria Ramos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Régis Coutinho in the 73rd minute of play. Rubens Viana hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. Régis Coutinho struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. José Maria Ramos didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for FC St. Pauli. During the 80th minute of the match Téo Mangueira completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Téo Mangueira a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of FC St. Pauli booed when Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ® was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Téo Mangueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Ȼōŗỉȵᵺỉƛȵʂ Wƛŗŗỉōŗʂ® fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that José Maria Ramos should have stopped the shot. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. FC St. Pauli fully deserved thier win.
