When Oscar Mota fell near the penalty area in the 11th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Internacional's protests and gave Oscar Mota a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Internacional getting a freekick after 12 minutes play. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Rubinho Guerra made a kick off. Raí Linares hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. Giovanni Secco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ruy Correia having to interfere. If Rubinho Guerra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 70th minute, Téo Mangueira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Téo Mangueira in the 72nd minute of play forced Internacional's goalkeeper Ruy Correia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
