With 4 minutes on the clock, Kauan Peres commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 3rd minute, one of Ogro F.C.:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Ogro F.C.. Chris Slade had in the 5thth minute some difficulties stopping Ruud Gullit's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Thierry Henry kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Chris Slade. That made the score 1-0 in the 13 minute of play. Tadeu do Nascimento recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ferenc Puskás was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 19th minute. Pragmáticos 1903's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Ulisses Simão fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zé Carlos Britto having to interfere. In the 28th minute, Thierry Henry hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Pragmáticos 1903 booed when Ogro F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. João Carlos Pitta didn't get a good kick on the ball. Thierry Henry received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Chris Slade came out and tried to block the shot, but Thierry Henry slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 34th minute. A collision led to Ogro F.C. getting a freekick after 38 minutes play. Juan Baiano hit a great ball. When Vágner Seco fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ogro F.C.'s protests and gave Vágner Seco a yellow card for diving instead. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hélder Simão to make the kick off.
