The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Arnulfo Palben got free with Gervasio Santiago in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ramiro Romelio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Honorio Pinto in the 21st minute of play. 23 minutes into the match, Club Atletico Lanus's goal looked a bit too open when Arnulfo Palben came free, but Gervasio Santiago reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 65th minute, Arnulfo Palben ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gervasio Santiago was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Gervasio Santiago showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Arnulfo Palben, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Jacobo Olivar's late challenge caught a O rey Iván's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Jacobo Olivar helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of O rey Iván booed when Club Atletico Lanus was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. With his leg Ramiro Romelio managed to avoid a goal in the 82ndth minute, when Club Atletico Lanus's Honorio Pinto fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Arnulfo Palben sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 88th minute Arnulfo Palben shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gervasio Santiago saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Arnulfo Palben in the 91st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Gervasio Santiago prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Club Atletico Lanus's Gervasio Santiago played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnulfo Palben in the 93rd minute of play. A collision led to O rey Iván getting a freekick after 95 minutes play. Horacio Txaran hit a great ball. Club Atletico Lanus's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
