David Mendez got his second yellow card in the match during the 17th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. A collision led to Pumas UNAM getting a freekick after 17 minutes play. David Mendez hit a great ball. In the 19th match minute, Palermo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eustaquio Vachon to maneuver through the defense. Arturo Cáceres fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nunez Ferrando having to interfere. Marciano Abar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Nunez Ferrando tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Baristo Sagaseta struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Nunez Ferrando didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Pumas UNAM. Nunez Ferrando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Baristo Sagaseta, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. In the 37th minute, Arturo Cáceres got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Baristo Sagaseta blasted a shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nunez Ferrando having to make a save. Nunez Ferrando made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Victorino Iliana in the 41st minute of play. Baristo Sagaseta received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nunez Ferrando came out and tried to block the shot, but Baristo Sagaseta slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 42nd minute.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Baristo Sagaseta to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Baristo Sagaseta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Nunez Ferrando was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. If Baristo Sagaseta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 57 minutes, Feliberto Marz mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Palermo and the Pumas UNAM players grew even worse after the yellow card. Nunez Ferrando took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Baristo Sagaseta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some careless play in the Palermo defense, Baristo Sagaseta kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nunez Ferrando. The Palermo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nunez Ferrando should have stopped the shot. In the 70th minute, Arturo Cáceres hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 73 minutes into the match, Palermo's goal looked a bit too open when Baristo Sagaseta came free, but Nunez Ferrando reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Augusto Remigio came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Palermo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Augusto Remigio couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Baristo Sagaseta managed to get in a good position for a shot. Pumas UNAM's supporters rose to their feet, but Baristo Sagaseta was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nunez Ferrando breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Erasmo Dimas hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. In the 84th minute Baristo Sagaseta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nunez Ferrando saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 85th minute, Feliberto Marz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With an all-out effort, Palermo's Godofredo Osoitz threw himself towards the right post 87 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Augusto Remigio, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Baristo Sagaseta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 89th minute. Nunez Ferrando tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Palermo booed when Pumas UNAM was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Victorino Iliana didn't get a good kick on the ball. There was no doubt that Pumas UNAM were the better team. Pumas UNAM's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
