After a rather tough play, Norumbega's Epifanio Garikoitz got a free kick in the 3rd minute. 15 minutes into the match, Norumbega's goal looked a bit too open when Atilano Cordareo came free, but Fernan Veto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The Rayos GDL fans' excitement grew in the 18th match minute when Rayos GDL's Bartolo Abaunza looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-0 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Rogelio Markel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 21st minute. Jacobo Benet tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Rogelio Markel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 24th minute, Lucas Iratze hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rogelio Markel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 29 minutes into the match, Rogelio Markel had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jacobo Benet. Rayos GDL's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rogelio Markel was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. If Rogelio Markel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Norumbega's Rogelio Markel got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 45 minutes into the match, Norumbega's goalkeeper Fernan Veto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mario Nesor.

The wind increased when Rogelio Markel made the kick off in the second half. Mario Nesor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 52nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Bartolo Abaunza struck a weak shot in the 56th minute. Fernan Veto didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rayos GDL. Atilano Cordareo hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Rogelio Markel might have been able to make a better finish in the 63rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jacobo Benet. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Rogelio Markel ran back to his position shaking his head. Bartolo Abaunza sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bartolo Abaunza in the 68th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fernan Veto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Ambrosio Ramirez during the 68th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Norumbega getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Eulalio Garaona hit a great ball. Jacobo Benet made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rogelio Markel in the 79th minute of play. In the 82nd minute, Mario Nesor got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Epifanio Garikoitz who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 87thth minute tested the skills of Jacobo Benet when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The crowd rose to their feet as Norumbega's Ambrosio Ramirez slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Jacobo Benet. That made the score 1-2 after 90 minutes of play. In the 95th minute, Epifanio Garikoitz made a precise shot to the right of Jacobo Benet. Rayos GDL's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-3. The Norumbega supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Norumbega would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
