Pål Jönsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Joaquin Madrigal tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pål Jönsson might have been able to make a better finish in the 35th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquin Madrigal. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Pål Jönsson ran back to his position shaking his head. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Insua Verdesoto during the 37th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Carlos-Armando Mendivil's late challenge caught a Im Javo's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Carlos-Armando Mendivil helped the player get up and apologised. In the 39th minute, Carlos-Armando Mendivil hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Neicer Chandeiro was the one to do the kick off. Im Javo's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Roger Odman was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-0. After having played for 77 minutes, Pål Jönsson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Guayaquil City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pål Jönsson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the Im Javo defense, Roger Odman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joaquin Madrigal. The Im Javo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Madrigal should have stopped the shot. After a rather tough play, Guayaquil City's Carlos-Armando Mendivil got a free kick in the 81st minute. In the 85th minute of the match Virila Aizaran shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Arnoldo Dorrego showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. If Roger Odman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Joaquin Madrigal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pål Jönsson in the 91st minute of play. Im Javo's Joaquin Madrigal played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Roger Odman in the 94th minute of play.
