Inter de Guayaquil FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jörn Svartengren was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jörn Svartengren got free with Alfred Kochowski in the 47th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
