Cruzeiro off game's Jerome Rouse played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ahmed Schwartz in the 12th minute of play. Jerome Rouse took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Wilmer Stone, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 19 played minutes Cruzeiro off game got a freekick which was hit by Perry Patterson. In the 20th minute, Tommy Barry hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jerome Rouse made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ahmed Schwartz in the 24th minute of play. 26 minutes into the match, Ahmed Schwartz had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jerome Rouse. Cruzeiro off game's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ahmed Schwartz was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After having played for 34 minutes, Ahmed Schwartz managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. In the 39th minute Ahmed Schwartz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jerome Rouse saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Wilmer Stone had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Jerome Rouse showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ahmed Schwartz, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Russell Pendleton was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 48 minutes into the match. Jon Quinn placed the ball on the penalty spot and got himself ready to shoot. Post out! After the first half Mercer Island AFC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
