The supporters of Bonita booed when DC United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Steven Biggs didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 5th minute, Joaquin Adams managed to get in a good position for a shot. Bonita's supporters rose to their feet, but Joaquin Adams was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Reinaldo Herndon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Boyce Thomson had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 6th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 7 played minutes DC United got a freekick which was hit by Bo Healy. In the 19th minute Boyce Thomson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reinaldo Herndon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. DC United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Bonita the free kick. Boyce Thomson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 30th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Adam Cline kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. DeAndre Scott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Van Stern, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. A collision led to Bonita getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Jeremiah McClain hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kirby Wyatt got free with DeAndre Scott in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Bonita's Jeremiah McClain got a free kick in the 44th minute.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Boyce Thomson to make the kick off. DeAndre Scott showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wilfred Dubois, who was totally free with the ball in the 51st minute. Jeremiah McClain fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Reinaldo Herndon having to interfere. 1-0 became the score in the 80th minute when Van Stern elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Van Stern struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. DeAndre Scott didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for DC United. DeAndre Scott came out of the goal in the 86th minute to try and stop a shot by DC United's Kirby Wyatt. But to his dismay, Kirby Wyatt quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jaime Atwood in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg DeAndre Scott saved Bonita from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in DC United's zone, Boyce Thomson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Reinaldo Herndon came out of the goal and Boyce Thomson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The DC United support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
