Quinn Dunn was slow to take the kick. During this time Sporting KC's players had a chance to rest. An unexpectedly hard shot by Roy Felix in the 23rd minute of play forced Bakersfield SC's goalkeeper Eldon Kelley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Roy Felix's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eldon Kelley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Flint Cervantes's late challenge caught a Sporting KC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Flint Cervantes helped the player get up and apologised. In the 26th match minute, Bakersfield SC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Flint Cervantes to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Von Gilbert in the 30th minute of play forced Sporting KC's goalkeeper Dalton Osborn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 31 minutes, Sonny Salazar managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Sporting KC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sonny Salazar was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Sporting KC's Dalton Osborn played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Salvador Patten in the 33rd minute of play. 35 minutes into the match, Bakersfield SC's goalkeeper Eldon Kelley had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Sonny Salazar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Salvador Patten in the 39th minute of play forced Sporting KC's goalkeeper Dalton Osborn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 44 minutes Bakersfield SC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Quinn Dunn who took care of the corner kick. The corner led Sporting KC's Quinn Dunn to fire away a dangerous shot which Eldon Kelley despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 46th minute of the match, Dane Keenan tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Eldon Kelley saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Roy Felix fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eldon Kelley having to interfere. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Von Gilbert to make the kick off. Roy Felix received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Eldon Kelley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpected shot in the 55th minute by Von Gilbert got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Salvador Patten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dalton Osborn having to interfere. After having played for 62 minutes, Von Gilbert managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bakersfield SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Von Gilbert was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 65 minutes into the game, Sonny Salazar cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Eldon Kelley was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Eldon Kelley stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Sonny Salazar's shot from short distance in the 70th minute. If Roy Felix had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 71st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 72 minutes into the game, Rudolph McFadden was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Bakersfield SC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Sporting KC the free kick. Rudolph McFadden hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Eldon Kelley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roy Felix, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. 77 minutes into the match, Salvador Patten had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Dalton Osborn. Sporting KC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Salvador Patten was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 83rd minute, Sonny Salazar managed to get in a good position for a shot. Sporting KC's supporters rose to their feet, but Sonny Salazar was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eldon Kelley breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sonny Salazar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eldon Kelley having to interfere. Eldon Kelley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sonny Salazar in the 88th minute of play. Eldon Kelley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Roy Felix in the 91st minute of the match. Eldon Kelley came out of the goal in the 92nd minute to try and stop a shot by Sporting KC's Sonny Salazar. But to his dismay, Sonny Salazar quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. Roy Felix's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eldon Kelley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play.
