Nigel Buddle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Derek Kimball in the 19th minute of play. Luther Hickey made an important save on a dangerous shot by Miles Carrasco in the 21st minute. If Duncan Bartlett had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 23rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26th minute of the match Wyatt Benitez sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nigel Buddle skillfully saved the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Miles Carrasco in the 28th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luther Hickey saved Riverhead from getting behind. 29 minutes into the game, Sherwood Guillory was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Union City's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Riverhead the free kick. Sherwood Guillory hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Nigel Buddle made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Duncan Bartlett in the 33rd minute of play. Miles Carrasco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nigel Buddle showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Duncan Bartlett in the 48th minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Duncan Bartlett made the kick off in the second half. Nigel Buddle was a little too slow when Duncan Bartlett got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 57th minute. The score was now 0-1. Enrique Huddleston charged in rather forcefully in the 60th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Enrique Huddleston the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 60th minute, Enrique Huddleston hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Miles Carrasco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Luther Hickey having to interfere. 66 minutes into the game, one of Union City:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match had been going on for 70 minutes, Riverhead's Darell Holmes got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Nigel Buddle. Nigel Buddle took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Duncan Bartlett, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Luther Hickey stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Miles Carrasco's shot from short distance in the 78th minute. The Union City fans' excitement grew in the 85th match minute when Union City's Miles Carrasco looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Union City's Miles Carrasco got a good chance for a goal in the 89th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Nigel Buddle made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Derek Kimball sent off a good shot on target. 95 minutes into the game, Duncan Bartlett recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Nigel Buddle. Duncan Bartlett showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-3.
