An unexpectedly hard shot by Derrick Whitmore in the 11th minute of play forced Hokie Nation's goalkeeper DeMarcus Kenny to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 14 minutes into the match, Jerseyville's goalkeeper Hector Soto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Boyd McCracken. Hector Soto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Benny Foster in the 15th minute of the match. Benny Foster received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 16th minute. Hector Soto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Derrick Whitmore was the one to do the kick off. The referee ignored Jerseyville's protests and gave Emery Libby a yellow card for diving instead. In a very dangerous position, a player in Jerseyville fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 68th minute. Penalty! Hector Soto had in the 70thth minute some difficulties stopping Blaine Rafferty's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 2-1 became the score in the 76th minute when Todd Blanco elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Boyd McCracken fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 83rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hector Soto having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Benny Foster's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hector Soto was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. After having played for 86 minutes, Benny Foster managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hokie Nation's supporters crossed their fingers, but Benny Foster was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Everett Diaz hit a great freekick 87 minutes into the match. Boyd McCracken fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hector Soto having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Darius Camp during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 90 played minutes Jerseyville got a freekick which was hit by Darius Camp. Benny Foster fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hector Soto having to interfere. Jerseyville's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
