Geoff Matos's late challenge caught a Hokie Nation's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Geoff Matos helped the player get up and apologised. In the 2nd match minute, Atherton FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Geoff Matos to maneuver through the defense. Benny Foster struck a weak shot in the 5th minute. Tuan Goff didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hokie Nation. After 8 minutes, Dudley Carbajal mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Atherton FC and the Hokie Nation players grew even worse after the yellow card. In a very dangerous position, a player in Atherton FC fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 7th minute. Penalty! In the 9th minute there was a penalty for Hokie Nation. Blaine Rafferty stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Tuan Goff. 0-1. Jerome Thomason fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without DeMarcus Kenny having to interfere. If Jerome Thomason had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 21st minute, Jim Hadley fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Benny Foster recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 26th minute, Boyd McCracken made a precise shot to the right of Tuan Goff. Atherton FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-2. After 31 minutes of play, Hokie Nation's Benny Foster made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Tuan Goff was left in no man's land by his defense there! Hokie Nation's DeMarcus Kenny proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save Hokie Nation from getting a goal against them. 40 minutes into the match, Atherton FC's Jerome Thomason sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that DeMarcus Kenny narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Brendan Vance took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 44th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Tuan Goff. Atherton FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 45 minutes into the game, Hokie Nation's Boyd McCracken nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tuan Goff made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

The wind increased when Benny Foster made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Hokie Nation's Romeo Stewart got a free kick in the 52nd minute. DeMarcus Kenny showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jerome Thomason in the 53rd minute of the match. DeMarcus Kenny took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jim Hadley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tuan Goff made an important save on a dangerous shot by Boyd McCracken in the 60th minute. If Benny Foster had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. DeMarcus Kenny made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jim Hadley in the 65th minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Benny Foster kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Tuan Goff. That made the score 0-5 in the 74 minute of play. Tuan Goff didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Boyd McCracken went, in the 81st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-6 was the resulting score. After having played for 85 minutes, Geoff Matos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Atherton FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Geoff Matos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. DeMarcus Kenny made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jim Hadley in the 86th minute of play. Atherton FC's Dudley Carbajal got his second yellow card of the match in the 92nd minute. The referee ordered Dudley Carbajal off the ground. The Hokie Nation players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
