Discovery Bay's Rick Lane tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 34 minutes into the match, Discovery Bay's Corey Childers sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Cristopher Munson narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 35 minutes into the game, Keith Duffy was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Los Angeles F.C's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Discovery Bay the free kick. Mitchell Starr recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 43rd minute, Darrel McCauley left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Discovery Bay fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1.

The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Wilton Carrillo during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 53 minutes into the game, one of Discovery Bay:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Mitchell Starr showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-4. After 79 minutes, Corey Childers mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Discovery Bay and the Los Angeles F.C players grew even worse after the yellow card.
