Spectators: 7994 (Terracing: 5997, Seating: 1838, VIP seats: 159) Thornton FC's Corey Childers started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Corey Childers in the 5th minute of play forced Washburn FC's goalkeeper Isaiah Grove to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Corey Childers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Isaiah Grove tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Isaiah Grove made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Darrel McCauley in the 9th minute of play. In the 11th match minute, Thornton FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Quentin Urmanski to maneuver through the defense. Rick Lane made a fantastic save in the 11th minute, when Scottie Reid sent off a good shot on target. Isaiah Grove had in the 15thth minute some difficulties stopping Percy Brantley's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Darrel McCauley managed to get in a good position for a shot. Thornton FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Darrel McCauley was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Isaiah Grove breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Washburn FC's Isaiah Grove played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Darrel McCauley in the 24th minute of play. If Corey Childers had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Duane Glenn struck a weak shot in the 32nd minute. Rick Lane didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Washburn FC. In the 36thth minute of the game Corey Childers who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Washburn FC's Isaiah Grove was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Duane Glenn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Darrel McCauley in the 40th minute of play forced Washburn FC's goalkeeper Isaiah Grove to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 41st minute Corey Childers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Isaiah Grove saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Duane Glenn stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Washburn FC getting a freekick after 57 minutes play. Allan Morgan hit a great ball. Washburn FC's Cliff Horner was substituted for Alonzo Donovan. Allan Morgan kicked well hit freekick during the 59th minute of the match. Percy Brantley was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 60th played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. Duane Glenn might have been able to make a better finish in the 61st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rick Lane. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Duane Glenn ran back to his position shaking his head. A collision led to Washburn FC getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Cliff Horner hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Thornton FC's Terrence Raines got a free kick in the 69th minute. Darrel McCauley fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Isaiah Grove having to interfere. The supporters of Washburn FC booed when Thornton FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rodolfo Baltazar didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Corey Childers came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the Thornton FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Corey Childers couldn't finish the play. Duane Glenn recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 82nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Washburn FC's Isaiah Grove played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Corey Childers in the 85th minute of play. Isaiah Grove showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Corey Childers, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Isaiah Grove stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Corey Childers's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. Washburn FC's Isaiah Grove played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Corey Childers in the 91st minute of play. When Scottie Reid came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Washburn FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Scottie Reid couldn't finish the play. Duane Glenn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 97th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Thornton FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
