Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Travis Cangiano in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Rick Lane prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience thought a goal was coming when Monte Shelton got free with Rick Lane in the 24th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 25th minute, Terrence Raines hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpected shot in the 27th minute by Ronny Handy got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maurice Freeman got free with Rick Lane in the 29th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Joey Sorenson hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. Corey Childers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 37 minutes, Darrel McCauley managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Thornton FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Darrel McCauley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 40th minute, Ronny Handy got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rick Lane made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ronny Handy in the 43rd minute of play. Rick Lane took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ronny Handy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The corner led Topton's Elliot Starks to fire away a dangerous shot which Rick Lane despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The supporters of Thornton FC booed when Topton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 71 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joey Sorenson didn't get a good kick on the ball.
