Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Percy Brantley in the 9th minute of play forced John Hartford FC's goalkeeper Whitney Swift to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Christian Kruse blasted a shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rick Lane having to make a save. Rick Lane took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leland Rubio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 15 minutes, Perry Larson managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. John Hartford FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Perry Larson was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Leland Rubio might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Rick Lane. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Leland Rubio ran back to his position shaking his head. After having played for 25 minutes, Christian Kruse managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. John Hartford FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Christian Kruse was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Leland Rubio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Rick Lane tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Rick Lane took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leland Rubio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. John Hartford FC's Whitney Swift played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Percy Brantley in the 30th minute of play. When Christian Kruse fell near the penalty area in the 31st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored John Hartford FC's protests and gave Christian Kruse a yellow card for diving instead. Christian Kruse hit a great freekick 31 minutes into the match. A collision led to Thornton FC getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Corey Childers hit a great ball. With a little luck, John Hartford FC's Whitney Swift got control of the ball when Darrel McCauley tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 36 minutes, Leland Rubio managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. John Hartford FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Leland Rubio was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Whitney Swift made an important save on a dangerous shot by Darrel McCauley in the 38th minute. Leland Rubio's late challenge caught a Thornton FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. John Hartford FC's Whitney Swift proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save John Hartford FC from getting a goal against them. 45 minutes into the match, Leland Rubio notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Thornton FC's Rick Lane. Rick Lane was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Leland Rubio made a kick off. In the 52nd minute Darrel McCauley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Whitney Swift saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Whitney Swift made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Percy Brantley in the 53rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Kruse in the 55th minute of play forced Thornton FC's goalkeeper Rick Lane to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of John Hartford FC booed when Thornton FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Terrence Raines didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 88th minute Rodolfo Baltazar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Whitney Swift saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Thornton FC's Quentin Urmanski got a free kick in the 89th minute. With a little luck, Thornton FC's Rick Lane got control of the ball when Rocco Berg tried to sneak it across the goal line. Leland Rubio fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rick Lane having to interfere.
