Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Maryland Heights's Sergio Justice started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Reed Deering recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 2nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Maryland Heights's Brady Bergstrom played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Reed Deering in the 4th minute of play. 7 minutes into the match, Werner Sylvester had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Brady Bergstrom. Maryland Heights's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Werner Sylvester was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. After a rather tough play, Edwardsville's Earl Wiley got a free kick in the 16th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Edwardsville's zone, Rudy Kimball stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sean Braxton came out of the goal and Rudy Kimball tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Werner Sylvester succeeded in the game's 21st minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-2. When Rudy Kimball came up free with the goalie in the 24th minute, the Maryland Heights fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rudy Kimball couldn't finish the play. Sean Braxton made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sergio Justice in the 26th minute of play. Brady Bergstrom made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ferdinand Uhl in the 27th minute of play. Rudy Kimball fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Braxton having to interfere. In the 35th minute, Clint Paul hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joseph Hendrickson struck a weak shot in the 36th minute. Brady Bergstrom didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Edwardsville. Brady Bergstrom showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Werner Sylvester, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 41st minute Werner Sylvester shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brady Bergstrom saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Brady Bergstrom showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ferdinand Uhl, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Rudy Kimball fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sean Braxton having to interfere. In the 47th minute, Werner Sylvester left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Edwardsville fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-3 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Werner Sylvester to make the kick off. The supporters of Edwardsville booed when Maryland Heights was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 55 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adalberto Teague didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Reed Deering came up free with the goalie in the 58th minute, the Edwardsville fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Reed Deering couldn't finish the play. Brady Bergstrom showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Werner Sylvester in the 61st minute of the match. Werner Sylvester recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 64th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 74thth minute of the game Sergio Justice who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Edwardsville's Sean Braxton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sergio Justice in the 77th minute of play forced Edwardsville's goalkeeper Sean Braxton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Brady Bergstrom made an important save on a dangerous shot by Reed Deering in the 78th minute. If Werner Sylvester had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Maryland Heights's Brady Bergstrom proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Maryland Heights from getting a goal against them. Sean Braxton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sergio Justice in the 97th minute of the match. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Edwardsville had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
