Mickey Pham didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Tampa Bay. In the 17th minute, Lane Driscoll got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Brice Holden fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tampa Bay's protests and gave Brice Holden a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Tampa Bay getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Brice Holden hit a great ball. Lionel Corcoran could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Mickey Pham made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in Tampa Bay's zone, Lane Womack stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Donnie Holder came out of the goal and Lane Womack tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 29th minute, Lane Womack ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Donnie Holder was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Lionel Corcoran hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Donnie Holder didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lane Womack went, in the 37th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Donnie Holder showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lane Womack, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Raphael Dudley in the 47th minute of play forced Tampa Bay's goalkeeper Donnie Holder to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Wilfred Paul's late challenge caught a Tampa Bay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wilfred Paul helped the player get up and apologised. After 94 minutes Roanoke FC's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jacob Cabrera who took care of the corner kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Rolando Swenson heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Although Tampa Bay had been in control for most of the match, Roanoke FC still came away with the win.
