Andrei Manciulea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thanh Maloney in the 20th minute of the match. Douglas DeJesus might have been able to make a better finish in the 21st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Felix Cowan. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Douglas DeJesus ran back to his position shaking his head. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Paolo Atarratze during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Marlon Vilter scored 0-1 in the 37th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Felix Cowan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 46th minute Thanh Maloney shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andrei Manciulea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ernesto Hoskins hit a great freekick 48 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 49th minute, Douglas DeJesus managed to get in a good position for a shot. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Thanh Maloney made a kick off. If Douglas DeJesus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Son Gaines in the 62nd minute of play forced Gates's goalkeeper Andrei Manciulea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Ramiro Orozco managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gates's supporters rose to their feet, but Ramiro Orozco was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Felix Cowan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marlon Vilter got free with Felix Cowan in the 68th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 69 minutes, Douglas DeJesus took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Felix Cowan to make any attempt to save it.
