An unexpectedly hard shot by Vern DeJesus in the 4th minute of play forced Virginia Cyclones's goalkeeper Lucas Slaughter to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Virginia Cyclones getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Ahmed McCullough hit a great ball. Elliott Stapleton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tristan McClain, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tristan McClain helped the player get up and apologised. Tristan McClain hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Lucas Slaughter made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Vern DeJesus in the 25th minute of play. In the 28th minute, Vern DeJesus made a precise shot to the right of Lucas Slaughter. Virginia Cyclones's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. In the 33rd match minute, Glen Ellyn was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernie Saucedo to maneuver through the defense. After 39 minutes of play, Glen Ellyn's Vern DeJesus made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Lucas Slaughter was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a little luck, Glen Ellyn's Elliott Stapleton got control of the ball when Claudio Poe tried to sneak it across the goal line. 43 minutes into the match, Glen Ellyn's goal looked a bit too open when Edgardo Shaver came free, but Elliott Stapleton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jeramy Goddard could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 45th minute of the match, but Elliott Stapleton made a huge save. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The supporters of Virginia Cyclones booed when Glen Ellyn was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bernie Saucedo didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 60th minute Claudio Poe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Elliott Stapleton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Edgardo Shaver came up free with the goalie in the 61st minute, the Virginia Cyclones fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edgardo Shaver couldn't finish the play. Virginia Cyclones's Tristan McClain got a good chance for a goal in the 65th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 66 played minutes Glen Ellyn got a freekick which was hit by Anders Ersman. In the 70th minute, Edgardo Shaver ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Elliott Stapleton was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. 74 minutes into the game, Virginia Cyclones's Edgardo Shaver nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Elliott Stapleton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. Elliott Stapleton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Claudio Poe, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. Blair Levy kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. In the 85th minute, Claudio Poe made a precise shot to the right of Elliott Stapleton. Glen Ellyn's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 4-2. 90 minutes into the match, Claudio Poe had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Elliott Stapleton. Glen Ellyn's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Claudio Poe was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-2. Edgardo Shaver scored 6-2 in the 93rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Elliott Stapleton, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Virginia Cyclones fully deserved thier win.
