Seating: 1941, VIP seats: 168) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Shayne Cagle kicked off to start the match. Bryce McGowan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Boyd Donnelly having to interfere. The supporters of Waterbury Rangers booed when US Army was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Porter Hanna didn't get a good kick on the ball. Brant Benson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Shayne Cagle, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 10th minute, Rodolfo Cordero made a precise shot to the right of Brant Benson. US Army's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. 15 minutes into the match, Rodolfo Cordero notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of US Army's Brant Benson. Brant Benson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 18 minutes, Rodolfo Cordero managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Waterbury Rangers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodolfo Cordero was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 20 minutes into the match, US Army's goal looked a bit too open when Shayne Cagle came free, but Brant Benson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rodolfo Cordero in the 22nd minute of play forced US Army's goalkeeper Brant Benson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 23 minutes into the match, US Army's goal looked a bit too open when Shayne Cagle came free, but Brant Benson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Marshall Titus had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Waterbury Rangers's Boyd Donnelly played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Octavio Parker in the 26th minute of play. Boyd Donnelly made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marshall Titus in the 29th minute of play. After 31 minutes of play, US Army's Bryce McGowan made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Boyd Donnelly was left in no man's land by his defense there! Boyd Donnelly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Marshall Titus in the 34th minute of the match. A collision led to US Army getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Christian Durham hit a great ball. In the 37th minute, Shayne Cagle left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Waterbury Rangers fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. After having played for 39 minutes, Jude Blankenship managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Waterbury Rangers's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jude Blankenship was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of US Army booed when Waterbury Rangers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Shayne Cagle didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 46th minute, Rodolfo Cordero ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Brant Benson was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-4.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bryce McGowan to make the kick off. Kasey Poole kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. Shayne Cagle's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brant Benson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. Boyd Donnelly showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bryce McGowan in the 61st minute of the match. Jude Blankenship sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Shayne Cagle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 68th minute, Waterbury Rangers's Shayne Cagle dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-5. Brant Benson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jude Blankenship in the 70th minute of the match. Boyd Donnelly showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bryce McGowan, who was totally free with the ball in the 72nd minute. 75 minutes into the match, Jude Blankenship dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Brant Benson, 1-6. An unexpectedly hard shot by Shayne Cagle in the 81st minute of play forced US Army's goalkeeper Brant Benson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of US Army booed when Waterbury Rangers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 86 match minutes in a wonderful position. Shayne Cagle didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to Waterbury Rangers getting a freekick after 87 minutes play. Shayne Cagle hit a great ball. Rodolfo Cordero fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brant Benson having to interfere. 95 minutes had been played when some careless play by US Army's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Ryan Esparza was slow to take the kick. During this time Waterbury Rangers's players had a chance to rest. The corner went over the outstretched arms of US Army's goalie and right to Jude Blankenship. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. US Army's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The Waterbury Rangers supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Waterbury Rangers would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
