When Rodolfo Cordero came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Waterbury Rangers fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rodolfo Cordero couldn't finish the play. After a defensive mix-up in US Army's zone, Shayne Cagle stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Brant Benson came out of the goal and Shayne Cagle tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 15th minute Shayne Cagle shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brant Benson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Waterbury Rangers getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. Alfonso Buck hit a great ball. 20 minutes into the match, Waterbury Rangers's goal looked a bit too open when Bryce McGowan came free, but Boyd Donnelly reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Brant Benson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Shayne Cagle in the 21st minute of play. Brant Benson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jude Blankenship, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. 26 minutes into the match, Rodolfo Cordero had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Brant Benson. US Army's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rodolfo Cordero was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. 30 minutes into the match, Rodolfo Cordero dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Brant Benson, 2-0. Through an outstanding action, after 32 minutes, Brant Benson successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After some careless play in the US Army defense, Rodolfo Cordero kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Brant Benson. The US Army fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Brant Benson should have stopped the shot. Rodolfo Cordero blasted a shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Brant Benson having to make a save. The supporters of Waterbury Rangers booed when US Army was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Christian Durham didn't get a good kick on the ball. Brant Benson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rodolfo Cordero in the 40th minute. Brant Benson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jude Blankenship, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. Brant Benson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Rodolfo Cordero went, in the 48th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Waterbury Rangers's Bradley Romano was substituted for Alfonso Buck. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-0.

Waterbury Rangers's Lewis Salas was substituted for Preston Winston. In a very dangerous position, a player in Waterbury Rangers fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 96th minute. Penalty! In the 100th minute, US Army got a penalty, and Brad Murdock placed the ball unsaveable into goal, by the right post. US Army's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
