Spectators: 8044 (Terracing: 6034, Seating: 1850, VIP seats: 160) After 3 minutes, Nestor Goldsmith mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vélez Sarsfield and the Venice players grew even worse after the yellow card. Vélez Sarsfield's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Terry Temple in the 10th minute. The corner led Vélez Sarsfield's Nestor Goldsmith to fire away a dangerous shot which Rainier Drouin despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Keith Torrez kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Luis Connors sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 16 played minutes Venice got a freekick which was hit by Arnaud Finney. Dusty Hoover fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rainier Drouin having to interfere. Rainier Drouin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dusty Hoover in the 23rd minute of play. Luis Connors took the ball and in the 25 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Bastien Brunson. Bastien Brunson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-0. Keith Torrez scored 1-1 in the 31st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Rainier Drouin, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Rainier Drouin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Keith Torrez, who was totally free with the ball in the 36th minute. Bryan DeGrasse recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 39th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Keith Torrez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rainier Drouin having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Venice's zone, Keith Torrez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rainier Drouin came out of the goal and Keith Torrez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 44 played minutes Venice got a freekick which was hit by Arnaud Finney. In the 45th minute, Dusty Hoover got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bryan DeGrasse to make the kick off. Vélez Sarsfield's Keith Torrez got a good chance for a goal in the 52nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Dusty Hoover had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a rather tough play, Vélez Sarsfield's Napoleon Fontaine got a free kick in the 55th minute. Bastien Brunson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bryan DeGrasse in the 58th minute of play. Keith Torrez could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 59th minute of the match, but Rainier Drouin made a huge save. 60 minutes into the match, Vélez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Bryan DeGrasse came free, but Bastien Brunson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Napoleon Fontaine had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Keith Torrez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vélez Sarsfield's Dusty Hoover got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Rainier Drouin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Keith Torrez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dusty Hoover got free with Rainier Drouin in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 81st minute, Curt Butler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venice's supporters rose to their feet, but Curt Butler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bastien Brunson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 83 minutes into the match, Vélez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Connors came free, but Bastien Brunson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Luis Connors had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Vélez Sarsfield's Bastien Brunson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bryan DeGrasse in the 89th minute of play.
