François Blackmon's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Carlos Arsenault firmly grabbed it by the left post. Dundee United FC SC's Emerson Walter played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fernando Strong in the 36th minute of play. 37 minutes into the game, River Plate Mtl's Derek Weston nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Carlos Arsenault had in the 43rdth minute some difficulties stopping François Blackmon's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Emerson Walter was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. The referee ignored River Plate Mtl's protests and gave Ira Ransom a yellow card for diving instead. In the 97th match minute, River Plate Mtl was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ira Ransom to maneuver through the defense. River Plate Mtl's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
